Local Biodiversity Action Plans
Inverness & Nairn Local Biodiversity Action Plan
This Local Biodiversity Action Plan for has been prepared for Inverness & Nairn. The Plan builds on and complements the ‘Biodiversity: Do a Little – Change a Lot in Inverness & Nairn’ booklet available below. It suggests a number of additional actions that could be undertaken to improve or raise awareness of local biodiversity within Inverness & Nairn in the next five to ten years.
The Inverness and Nairn area supports an amazing diversity of wildlife. We have many internationally important species, including dolphins, Slavonian grebes and red squirrels. Plants such as twinflower, juniper, green shield moss and rare lichens grow in our woodlands and glens.

An attractive biodiversity booklet was produced in August 2002, and updated in September 2004, to raise awareness and help stimulate action for biodiversity in the Inverness & Nairn area.
The booklet ‘Biodiversity: Do a Little – Change a Lot in Inverness & Nairn’ was produced in 2002 and updated in 2004. It highlights just a small representation of the biodiversity of Inverness and Nairn. Some actions are also identified which should help safeguard this precious resource. They reflect the views of many people… those living and working in the area, those who are dependent on the land, as well as those just visiting. Some were environmental specialists but many were not, and the range of actions suggested shows that together we could and should all be involved in the promotion and protection of our local, national and global biodiversity.
