Ross & Cromarty (East) Local Biodiversity Group

Introduction to Ross & Cromarty (East) (excerpt from Local Biodiversity Action Plan)

Ross and Cromarty (East) is an area of diverse landscapes, dominated by the deep ice-eroded glens and remote high hills to the west and the broad, open expanse of the Moray Firth to the east. Sandwiched in between along a narrow lowland area of fertile soils, live most of the 43,356 population, centred on the towns of Fortrose, Cromarty, Dingwall, Alness, Invergordon and Tain. Smaller communities and isolated crofts, small-holdings, farms, estates and homes are scattered across these lowlands and in the glacial straths. Information on key species and habitats can be found in the LBAP.

The Ross & Cromarty (East) Biodiversity Group (RCEBG)

RCBEG is a group of people representing a number of public sector agencies, non-governmental organisations, businesses and community interests, who originally came together to draft the LBAP. The group is chaired by Kenny Taylor, and includes representatives from Highland Council, SNH, RSPB, SEPA, Scottish Agricultural College, Cromarty Firth Fisheries Trust & British Trust for Conservation Volunteers, as well as local community and environmental groups.

The group is involved in a number of projects to enhance and promote biodiversity (the lead partners are listed in brackets):
