Landfill Communities Fund
The Landfill Communities Fund (formerly called the Landfill Tax Credit Scheme) was designed to help mitigate the effects of landfill upon local communities. In 2007, Highland Council took the decision to spend its Landfill Communities Fund money on biodiversity and related projects.
Since then, this Fund has spent over £100,000 on 13 practical, site-based biodiversity projects, with a further 12 projects (worth a further £100,000) awaiting confirmation. The Fund specifically targets those projects which help local or national priority habitats or species.
